The three counters on your HUD
Every mission screenshot shows the same trio in the top-left corner: TIME, SCORE and TARGET with a point value. TIME ticks up as the mission runs, SCORE is your running total, and TARGET names what you are currently credited for destroying. A green DESTROYED banner confirms each kill, and a NEXT marker points to the next objective when one target group clears.
That structure is the series’ classic loop: speed and kills both feed the final grade, so the fastest pilot who also cleans the map wins — not the fastest pilot who ignores everything.
Every confirmed point value
Official screenshots put real numbers on four target types:
| Target | Confirmed value |
|---|---|
| MQ-19 drone | +100 |
| SU-25SM ground attacker | +340 |
| SUB PROPELLER (sub-target on the giant airborne vessel) | +200 each |
| SWARM DRONES (city defense group) | +800 |
The pattern is informative. Basic drones are cheap; manned ground-attack aircraft pay more than three times as much; multi-part superweapon sub-targets stack significantly; and a defended drone swarm pays a group bonus. Killing what the mission actually highlights — the TARGET line — pays better than farming respawns.

Multi-lock weapons are score weapons
The confirmed target values explain why the loadout system leans into multi-lock missiles. A 6AAM salvo that strips six drones converts directly into +600 of score in one pass, and the new two-slot special weapon system means you can carry that salvo alongside a precision weapon for high-value ground targets (the special weapons guide lists every confirmed weapon).
Wingmen multiply this. Screenshots show an SP WEAPON DISPERSE/ATTACK command — a “Dispersed Attack” order sends your flight’s special weapons across multiple targets at once, which is the fastest way to clear a multi-target group like the radar towers in the snow-valley mission. The parts and loadouts guide covers how to arm the flight for those orders.
The damage model changed how score builds
Project ACES has confirmed that enemies no longer have specific weak points and that destroyed aircraft can damage nearby targets. For scoring, that has two implications:
- Everything you shoot is credit-worthy. With no weak-point gating, damage accumulates from any angle, so passes that would previously have been wasted now chip targets toward destruction.
- Chain reactions are score multipliers. A kill that cascades into a neighbor effectively pays two scores for one missile — worth prioritizing dense target clusters like the swarm groups.
What is not confirmed yet
Three pieces of the rating puzzle are missing from official material, and they will be filled in during launch-week testing rather than guessed at:
- The rank letters and score thresholds per mission.
- Whether mission time subtracts from the score or acts as a tiebreaker.
- How campaign scores relate to ACE COMBAT ONLINE’s team score battles, described as the largest online mode in franchise history (see the ACE COMBAT ONLINE guide).
The beginner guide stays the best starting point if the HUD itself still looks like alphabet soup.
